The Midwife

On a more personal front, we are a Christian family.  I have homeschooled my three children from their first day of school. My youngest is still working on high school.  My husband is database administrator for a local college.  We have been married for 24 years.

We live on five acres in rural Beloit and love this community.  We are members of a square dancing club, and love to camp.

My name is Edie Wells, and I am a Certified Professional Midwife.  I am not a physician or a nurse. I am a traditionally trained midwife who has acquired certification through a National midwifery organization called the North American Registry of Midwives http://narm.org/.   I am

also licensed to practice by the State of Wisconsin.

I was drawn to midwifery before I was married, when a friend of mine contemplated having a home birth with her first child.  I started reading and I was hooked.  However, as with so many young people, life got in the way of my dream, and I set it aside.

After my three children were born - two of them at home - I couldn't ignore the calling any longer.  I started studying, and began my apprenticeship when my youngest was 3-1/2 years old.  I was fortunate to apprentice with two wonderful midwives who opened their hearts to me and shared their years of knowledge.

In 1993 my family moved to Beloit in order for me to work as partners with one of those midwives.  However changes in her family life led her to stop practicing, and pass her clients on to me.
