Why Home Birth?
 (continued)

Your baby is YOUR baby. No one takes your baby from you without your consent. Other than checking to be sure the baby is stable at birth (in your arms) no exams or procedures of any sort are done until you are ready, and the baby has nursed.

At home - no one will accidentally circumcise your baby, cut your baby with a scalpel while doing a Cesarean Section, or give you a Cesarean Section (your chance is almost 30% in the hospital). You won't be stuck in bed watching stupid television shows while you are numb from the waist down with a catheter in your bladder, and an automatic blood pressure cuff on your arm. You won't get the "other" doctor that you didn't like too much. Your children can stay with you - or not.  Your choice.
Bad things can happen in the hospital, and they can happen at home. At home, neither mother nor baby are affected by drugs, making problems in labor less likely. The midwife is skilled in dealing with common complications and emergencies that occur during birth. Generally, she will suggest a transfer to the hospital if things do not appear to be going normally. Most studies show that birth at home, with a skilled attendant, is as safe or safer than birth in a hospital. (See links.)
My apprentice, Mary, weighing a newborn - Yes - this little one was born in a tipi!

Even the newborn exam is a family affair.
