“…One year ago today I would have never believed anyone if they had told me where I would be now. First, I can’t believe I had a baby, and second I can’t believe we gave birth at home…What you and Cindy* did for me will impact me for the rest of my life! The whole birth was incredible!!! I told my friend today if every woman’s birth was like mine there’d be a whole lot more children running around…I love to just sit and nurse Almanzo and remember how great it really was. Nobody to scare me, hook me up to stuff I didn’t want, tell me I had to lie still or be in a certain position, tell me I wasn’t progressing while impatiently watching the clock. I just look back on it and really think it was so calm compared to what you hear other people telling of their hospital births…and OH how REFRESHING that water felt. I couldn’t believe the stress just wash right out of me as soon as I just even had my leg in. It was SO relaxing…Nancy

…I am not sure I am going to find words to express how grateful I feel for having had you as our midwife. As you know very well, giving birth is a miraculous experience…But not all women have the opportunity (or the desire) to give birth in a way that is empowering and natural. I feel very grateful that I had the opportunity to do it twice, and I feel so grateful that you allowed that to happen. I remember now a time during Tayla’s birth when I got a little scared because I didn’t know what was coming out of my vagina! It felt like a head and “something else”…At any rate, I remember clearly looking at you and the way you looked back at me, said it all: “Just let it flow, everything is OK” (that’s not what you said, but that which I “heard” from looking at you). Edie, your presence at the birth was priceless…You have such a wonderful, mindful presence. You held the space in such a gentle way. Your presence was incredibly empowering yet peaceful at the same time. I feel so fortunate to have had you at the birth of our two daughters….Carmen
